Poetry is the expression of true emotions through words. When a poet is close to nature, their creations become meaningful and beautiful. But if a poet leans toward materialism, their words can misguide the people of their time. In today’s world, using poetry as a means of teaching and spreading values has become very difficult. However, there are still some poets in the Pothohar region who are trying to keep this mission alive. One of them is my dear friend, Ansar Raakh Bhatti.
Raakh Sahib is a talented and sincere student of the late respected teacher Sahibzada Muhammad Suleman Raqib Hashmi. His poetry is reformative and revolutionary. He speaks the truth boldly and fearlessly. That’s why his poetry often receives mixed reactions — the honest appreciate it, and the dishonest don’t. But he has always held firmly to the rope of truth.
I have a long-standing friendship with Raakh Sahib, and I also admire him as a performer of poetry (she’r khwaan). I often sing his poetry in my gatherings to help spread his message among the people. He also appreciates me for how I present poetry through my voice.
When Raakh Sahib asked me to write a few words for this book, I couldn’t say no — even though I am currently on a cultural tour of the UK and have many engagements. Firstly, because he is a true and fearless poet, and secondly, because he is my friend.
I pray to Almighty Allah that He continues to bless him with truth, courage, and sincerity — and grants him the ability to keep writing meaningful and high-quality poetry.
