11 مئی 1994ء کے سورج کے طلوع ہونے سے اس تاریک براعظم(افریقہ) کا آخری تار یک گوشہ بھی روشن ہو گیا اور رنگ ونسل کی وہ دیوار برلن جو جبر و استحصال کی مضبوط چٹانوں سے تعمیر کی گئی تھی بالآخر مسمار ہو گئی ۔ کل کے باغی حریت پسند اور ضمیر کے قیدی نیلسن منڈیلہ نے جنوبی افریقہ کے پہلے سیاہ فام صدر کی حیثیت سے حلف اٹھایا تو بہت سے لوگوں کی آنکھیں نم آلود ہو گئیں ۔ حلف برداری کی تقریب کا یہ تاریخ ساز منظر دیکھنے کے لئے دنیا بھر کے سربراہان مملکت و حکومت پر بیٹوریا کی یونین بلڈنگ میں موجود تھے۔ اس تاریخ ساز واقعے کے بعد جنوبی افریقہ میں 300 سال بعد غیر نسلی بنیادوں پر ہونے والے انتخابات کے نتیجے میں افریقن نیشنل کانگرس کی کامیابی نے اس ملک سے اس سفید فام تسلط کا ہمیشہ ہمیشہ کے لئے خاتمہ کر دیا جس سے نجات حاصل کرنے کے لئے سیاہ فام اکثریت کو طویل جد و جہد کرنا پڑی۔ بے پناہ مظالم اور آمریت کا سامنا کرنا پڑا۔75 سالہ نیلسن منڈیلہ جب جنوبی افریقہ کے صدر کی حیثیت سے حلف اٹھا رہے تھے اس وقت گلیوں اور بازاروں میں لوگ جشن منا رہے تھے ، ناچ رہے تھے اور گا رہے تھے ۔ آج وہ آزاد تھے اور وہ خوش کیوں نہ ہوں کہ آزادی کے یہ ترانے انہیں نیلسن منڈیلہ ہی نے سکھائے تھے۔ نیلسن منڈیلہ کا صدر کے عہدے پر فائز ہونا دنیا کی سیاسی تاریخکا ایک بڑا واقعہ تھا۔ نیلسن منڈیلہ 18 جولائی 1918 ء کو متاتا کے قریب ہمبو قبیلے کے سردار خاندان میں پیدا ہوئے ۔ انہوں نے طالب علمی ہی کے زمانے میں سیاست میں قدم رکھا۔اس کتاب میں آپ کی کامیابی کی مختصر روداد بیان کی گئی ہے۔
