AHMAD ALI SAAIEN
“Dhilli Gul” – A Thoughtful Effort to Preserve a Fading Treasure
The Punjabi language holds a vast and priceless heritage that, over time, has been lost amidst neglect, indifference, and the winds of change. What was once carefully nurtured in every village, hamlet, and town is now disappearing before our eyes—buried under the dust of forgetfulness.
“Kehnda Saeen” is a sincere and successful effort to retrieve and preserve this fading wealth. This commendable literary work is the result of heartfelt dedication by Afzal Parvez, a distinguished poet, writer, and devoted servant of Punjabi literature from the Pothohar region.
This book brings to light the poetry of Saeen Ahmad Ali Peshawari, one of the last great voices of our elder literary generation. Until now, his poetry had not received the attention it deserved—neither collected nor properly compiled or studied. Acting on the wishes of the Pakistan Punjabi Literary Board and with the support of Saeen Peshawari’s admirers, disciples, singers, and other concerned individuals, Afzal Parvez took on the difficult task of listening to, transcribing, editing, and finally shaping the verses into a book.
Alongside the poetry, this volume includes a carefully researched list of Saeen’s disciples, as well as brief biographical notes about them—offering readers a window into the broader circle of poets associated with the “Saeen School” of thought in Pothohar.
This is perhaps the first serious and structured attempt to preserve and share the forgotten pearls of Punjabi literature. May this effort pave the way for future initiatives, and help the language, its legacy, and its spiritual wisdom rise once again into the light.
